The borough is coterminous with New York County, and addresses within the borough of Manhattan are typically designated as New York, NY. It is by far the most densely populated county in the United States. Manhattan is the third most populous of New York City's five boroughs (both Brooklyn and Queens have more residents), and geographically the smallest; nonetheless, it is considered the nerve center of New York City, enough so that even residents of the four other boroughs refer to Manhattan as "The City".
